My little lion (she is a
leo) showed us just how strong she was as she goes in and out of surgery for
pylorus stenosis (on Saturday) at 3 weeks and 1-day old. What is it and what happen? Well, it's when the opening to your stomach starts narrowing eventually preventing food from reaching your stomach and causing it to come back up. What happened was for about 4 days we noticed she started spitting up more than normal and eventually it was just about every meal and started coming out projectile. The advice nurses were still thinking I was being a paranoid first-time mom and that it was normal but my growing instincts were telling me otherwise. So despite their advice to keep trying to burp her better I took her to the emergency room on Saturday (with Grandma Naomi) and the Dr. there was able to quickly diagnose her and within a few hours Alana was in surgery. Everything went smoothly and the medical staff was outstanding! Twenty-four hours later Alana was back home and eating normal again - actually she's been making up for lost time and eating quite a bit which is fine by me!
Her daddy actually had the same surgery when he was just 2-weeks old (but no, it's not genetic although the fact that he did have it increased her chances of getting it). Good thing for Alana medicine has come along way in 31-years and instead of having to cut all the way across her tummy they just had to make three small incisions that should leave just a very little battle wound. She's a fighter!
